SKINWALKERS

Skin Walkers are Navajo witches that possess the ability to turn themselves into any animal they desire. This makes them very dangerous as they can enter your house as an ant and then transform into a wolf to kill you. They cannot be killed in the same way as a traditional witch, Instead, there are a few methods one can employ to kill them.

  1. A skin walker can be killed by wounding it in the neck region. This could be achieved by cutting its throat or through total decapitation. This is not recommended however because they are extremely strong and fast so attempting to fight one in close quarters would be very dangerous.

  2. A bullet or arrow rolled in the ashes of the white ash tree can kill a skinwalker if shot into its heart. If you miss the heart, however, the skinwalker will leave but it will come back for revenge once it's wound has healed.

  3. If you can learn the witch's true name, saying it to the skinwalker will cause it  to shrivel up and die.

My notes and thoughts:

If you need white ash it's used often in the construction of baseball bats and electric guitar necks. But MAKE SURE you know that it's white ash before burning and using for your bullets because any other wood is totally harmless to the skinwalker.

It's currently unknown why and how the white ash tree's ashes kill the skin walker when penetrating its heart. It's possible that a stake or spear made of white ash wood would also function. But whatever kills the skinwalker may be triggered only through burning the wood. If a skinwalker could be trapped testing could be conducted.

Natives often sprinkle bark around their campsites and burn it to repel skinwalkers. Is this white ash bark? Maybe a circle of white ashes could protect you from attack.

Talking about a skinwalker is said to increase the chances that one will come for you. So natives refuse to speak about them much. When hunting one it could be helpful to talk loudly about skinwalkers.
